My Magazine "Target" for School. Front Cover and Contents Page. |
Evaluation for Preliminary Task
We were set a preliminary task of designing a school magazine to interest and appeal to students. I feel my magazine “Target” has achieved this as it has the features of a school magazine while still maintaining a professional approach. The target audience was 11 to 17 year olds. My magazine is perfect for this audience as the masthead for my magazine is “Target” and this directly relates to students as constantly throughout their school life they are set targets to follow and work towards. The use of the bright red font also draws their attention and red connotes power and dominance which would relate to students. I also used cover lines that would relate to students such as “New Canteen Menu Revealed” and “Exam Help” as these would be things students would be interested in reading. Also after speaking to students in my target audience they said they loved the use of the cover lines as they would be the topics they would like to read about. I also included a small cartoon character of a superhero to appeal to the younger students and the use of the “Hero of the Week” would interest the younger students as they are very keen on being the best they can be.

Part of our preliminary task was to also design a contents
page for our school magazine. This also worked very well and I created a strong
and vivid contents page to help the students navigate around the magazine. To
keep a similar house style in the magazine I used the same font called “Tequilla Sunrise” and I
used this font as it looks like a hand written graffiti font. This font is
perfect for the target audience as students in this age group would love the
creativity and unique qualities from graffiti. I also used the same colours
from the front cover to maintain the house style and to avoid confusion
throughout the magazine.
Overall I think the magazine went very well and would be perfect for a school magazine. However it also needs many improvements such as a higher quantity of pictures and graphics to appeal more to the creative students and the ones who enjoy images. If I was to re-do the task I would include more pictures to create a stronger front cover and a more interesting contents page. The overall product is very good and with the strong use of vivid colours and cartoon style I feel the magazine would be perfect for the school and would be very useful to the students. I have learned a lot from the preliminary task to help me to make a very strong magazine.
